The Ethiopian Sheep and Goat Productivity Improvement Program (ESGPIP)

TMG conducted an evaluation of the Ethiopia Sheep and Goat Productivity Improvement Program (ESGPIP), implemented by Prairie View A&M University to reduce constraints to the increased productivity of small ruminants in Ethiopia. TMG collected and analyzed quantitative and qualitative information on performance, and assessed the progress towards meeting program objectives as reflected in key indicators and targets. The team reviewed program documents and reports, and gathered additional information during interviews with implementing partners, and site visits to locations where activities are being implemented. TMG obtained insight into implementing partner performance and expectations; the effectiveness and expected impact of KDA, SDSP, and producer training; and the potential for program sustainability.

The Ethiopian Dairy Development Program (EDDP)

The Ethiopian Dairy Development Program (EDDP)

TMG conducted the evaluation of this five-year activity that was implemented by a consortium of partners including Land O’ Lakes (LoL), World Wide Sires (WWS), and Hundee. The collaborating partners in the implementation of EDDP include the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD), the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) and Integrating Producers and Market Systems (IPMS) among others at the federal, regional and Woreda levels. TMG assessed the progress made towards the objectives of the EDDP and provided recommendations for meeting targets based on reprioritizing program activities, approaches and focus where appropriate. The Evaluation team met with a number of institutional and value chain stakeholders to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data that focused on the objectives of this assessment that addressed the key questions posed for this evaluation.

Ethiopia: The Agribusiness and Trade Expansion Program (ATEP)

TMG conducted the mid-term evaluation of the USAID-funded Agribusiness and Trade Expansion Program (ATEP) that was launched by Fintrac Inc. in partnership with various international and local subcontractors. ATEP represented the next step in USAID/Ethiopia’s overarching goal to further develop a private sector perspective in Ethiopian agribusiness at the same time as increasing rural incomes and employment. The evaluation provided Fintrac independent feedback on its activities and ways to maximize program impacts and help ensure sustainability of ATEP activities.

Business, Environment, Agriculture, and Trade (BEAT) Mid-Term Evaluation of Cross-Cutting Themes

TMG conducted mid-term evaluations of three USAID/Ethiopia BEAT projects: the Agribusiness and Trade Expansion Program (ATEP) implemented by Fintrac, Inc., the Ethiopian Dairy Development Program (EDDP) implemented by Land O’ Lakes, and the Ethiopian Sheep and Goat Productivity Improvement Program (ESGPIP) implemented by Prairie View A&M Research Foundation. TMG demonstrated the value of current organizational structures, assessed progress made towards achieving indicators that measured performance and program results, determined the influence of these projects on government policy, process, or administration, and revealed effectiveness of methodologies and outputs.

Uganda Feed the Future Program Design

TMG carried out the design of the Feed the Future program in Uganda. TMG defined new programs under the Feed the Future core investment areas of increasing agricultural productivity; reducing trade and transport barriers; promoting sound market-based principles for agriculture; accelerating participation of the very poor in rural growth; improving climate change and natural resource management; improving nutrition for women and children; and increasing effectiveness of humanitarian assistance.

Mali Vocational Education and Training Consolidation Project

TMG improved the quality, supply, and relevance of vocational education and training (VET) services through consolidation of pre-service VET training streams, and creation of a Vocational Training Support Fund for in-service skills upgrading. TMG also improved labor market information analysis and dissemination through the establishment of an Employment and Training Observatory at the National Manpower and Employment Office.

TMG expanded project activities that brought about increased production; continued to test those activities to show potential; Identified, through on-farm systems research, improved technology for future extension; and developed the capacity of Mali’s public and private sectors to identify, plan, implement, and evaluate viable livestock sector investments.

Services to Support the Secretary of Energy Visit to South Africa

To support the Secretary of Energy’s visit to South Africa, TMG successfully researched and identified small to medium size majority black-owned businesses in South Africa that could become potential candidates for US/SA joint ventures; created a comprehensive list of SA black majority energy-related enterprises; drafted, printed, and mailed invitations to participants invited to attend the Energy Summit; and provided support to the Energy Summit as directed.

Mozambique Primary Health Care (PHC) Support Project

TMG provided assistance for essential drugs and contraceptives, technical assistance, in-country training, research and studies, and project related costs. Given the serious limitations in the health sector and the preventable nature of Mozambique’s major health problems, a focus on preventive PHC that more efficiently and productively used resources to improve the overall health status in Mozambique, especially among women and children was TMG’s key emphasis.
