Project Overview

The goal of ABE ACR is to assist USAID Missions and Bureaus, in collaboration with governments, civil society, the private sector and other donors, to produce significant and reliably measured improvements in student reading outcomes for the largest possible number of children attending primary school.

Project Description

At first called “Assistance to Basic Education Learn to Read Now (ABE LEARN)”, the Advancing Basic Education: All Children Reading (ABE-ACR) Contract’s purpose is to provide technical assistance and services to improve student reading in the primary grades, particularly grades 1-3. TMG provides support through task orders for: improving teacher effectiveness; strengthening student assessment at different levels of the education system and for different purposes, increasing the quality, availability and use of reading materials; and strengthening classroom and school management, among other reading-related activities. TMG also works to improve instruction through strengthening host country education systems and other delivery mechanisms to improve instructional approaches; training and supporting teachers; and providing other services required to improve student reading, such as monitoring & evaluation and applied research.
